The Netherlands processed a substantial volume of Netherlands visa applications during 2024, receiving over 728,000 requests. This high figure positioned the country as the sixth most popular destination for visa applicants across the Schengen Area. France, Greece, and Italy each recorded even higher application numbers for the year.
Turkish, Indian, and Chinese nationals emerged as the top three groups submitting applications to Dutch authorities. Moreover, these nationalities also secured the largest share of granted visas. Turkish citizens, in particular, received the highest number of approvals from the Netherlands last year.
Specifically, Turkish nationals were granted 84,240 visas, representing an 86.8 percent approval rate from their 97,006 applications. Indian applicants also saw significant success, obtaining 75,727 visas, or 83.2 percent of their 91,003 submissions. Chinese citizens experienced an exceptionally high approval rate of 96.71 percent, resulting in 70,203 visas from 72,595 applications.
Other nationalities with strong approval rates included Indonesians, who received 51,103 visas (93.1 percent), and Filipinos, with 46,500 visas approved (95.77 percent). Meanwhile, Schengen states collectively processed 11.7 million visa applications throughout 2024.
However, the landscape of Netherlands visa applications also showed significant rejection trends. Indian nationals encountered the highest absolute number of refusals from Dutch authorities, with 14,569 rejected applications. Morocco followed with 12,398 rejections, then Türkiye with 11,792. Ghana and Egypt also recorded high numbers, at 8,394 and 7,174 rejections respectively.
When examining rejection rates relative to total applications, several African nations faced a particularly challenging outcome. For example, Senegalese applicants saw 81.05 percent of their applications rejected, totaling 4,478 out of 5,525. Algerian citizens experienced a 63.4 percent rejection rate, while Malians faced 60.8 percent of their applications being refused. Ghanaians had a 58 percent rejection rate, and nearly half of all Ugandan applications, 49.97 percent, were unsuccessful.
Affecting global travelers, these statistics highlight distinct patterns in visa processing by the Netherlands. They illustrate both the country’s appeal as a destination and varying success rates for different nationalities.
