The European waste management sector witnesses a significant shift. French industry leader Paprec Group has finalized the acquisition of an 80 percent stake in Brantner Green Solutions. This strategic move redefines the ownership of the Austrian company’s environmental division.

The Brantner family will retain the remaining 20 percent of shares. They will also actively support the integration process. This Paprec Brantner acquisition awaits final regulatory approvals. Its closing is projected for the fourth quarter of 2026.

This deal marks a substantial expansion for Paprec. The French recycling giant will now enter five new national markets. These include Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, and Serbia.

Brantner Green Solutions operates extensively across these regions. It employs approximately 2,500 people. The company also manages 65 facilities and locations. Annually, its revenue surpasses 320 million euros. Moreover, it serves over 28,000 municipal, industrial, and commercial customers.

Paprec CEO Mathieu Petithuguenin described the agreement as a significant milestone. This is Paprec’s largest acquisition since its 2016 merger with Coved Group. The deal directly supports the group’s overarching European growth strategy.

Once the acquisition is complete, Paprec will boast an impressive footprint. It will employ approximately 26,000 people across 15 countries. Its projected annual revenue will exceed 4.5 billion euros.

The Brantner family founded their company in 1936. They have grown it into a leading circular economy enterprise over generations. After a thorough, two-year exploratory process, the owner family unanimously chose Paprec as their long-term partner.

Bernd Brantner will continue as vice chairman of the restructured company. He highlighted the partnership’s role in securing long-term development. Furthermore, it lays the groundwork for realizing immense growth opportunities. The future development of the environmental division requires substantial investments, which become more efficient with this new strategic alliance.

Importantly, this transaction applies exclusively to the environmental and waste management division. Brantner Logistic Solutions and Brantner Real Estate business units remain 100 percent owned by the Brantner family. These entities will continue to operate independently.
